Hungarian PM arrives India, N-issue likely to be discussed

  • Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany will arrive today on a four-day visit during which India is expected to seek support of NSG member for a waiver of atomic group's guidelines to enable New Delhi to have trade with international community in the field.

  • The two sides will explore possibility of enhancing their multifaceted relations with particular focus on trade and investment.

  • Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Gyurcsany will hold talks on a wide-range of issues.

  • During the talks, Singh is expected to raise the issue of India's desire for civil nuclear cooperation with the international community in the backdrop of Indo-US deal.

  • The Hungarian side is likely to be apprised about the ongoing talks between New Delhi and IAEA for the safeguards agreement, which is a prelude to India approaching 45-nation NSG for a waiver to its rules.

  • Hungary is a member of the European Union, with which India has a strategic partner.
