Bharat Gopi passes away




  • Veteran film actor, producer and director Bharat Gopi (71) passed away at a private hospital here this afternoon. He was undergoing treatment at the KIMS Hospital ,Thiruvananthapurm after developed a chest pain during the shooting of Balachandran Menon's De Ingottu Nokkiye in Kayamkulam ,Alappuzha district.
    He is survived by his wife Jayalakshmi and children V G Murali Krishnan and Minu GopiBorn in 1937 in Chirayinkeezhu, Thiruvananthapurm, his real name was V Gopinathan Nair.

  • His first movie was Adoor Gopalakrishnan's Swayamvaram in1972. He has also acted in two Hindi movies, Aghat and Satah se udta admi.
    He is known for his performances in almost all the films he did Kodiyettam, Yavanika, Ormakkayi, Appunni, Panchavadippalam, Irakal etc. The film which awarded him the bharat award was Adoor Gopalakrishnan's Kodiyettam.

  • The actor was paralysed by a stroke in 1986, at the peak of his career. He was awarded the Padmashree in 1991. Recipient of several regional, national and international awards, the thespian wrote Abhinayam Anubhvam, for which he got the national award for the best book on cinema. He is considered one of the greatest film actors of India.
