Malayalam poet Kadammanitta Ramakrishnan passes away


Malayalam poet Kadammanitta Ramakrishan died at a private hospital in Pathanamthitta district 0n 31st March 2008. He was 73 and survived by wife and two children. Kadammanitta, as he is popularly known, had been undergoing treatment for the last few months.

Kadammanitta was born on March 22, 1935 in Kadammanitta province of the present Pathanamthitta district. His childhood experiences, especially the Patayani songs, imparted strong influence in his literary work. With his powerful and mind provoking poems he became one of the gifted rebellious voices in modern Malayalam literature. More than anything, it was his style of reciting his own poems in a powerful and efficient manner made him darling of many progressives.

His main works include Kadammanittayude Kavithakal, Kadammanittayude, Thiranjedutha Bharanippaattukal, Therikkavithakal, Kalayum Alpam Theriyum, Oru Communistkarante Laingeeka Cheshtakal, Kadinjool Pottan, Poottile Poonthottam, Ookkaan Poya Neram, Maadhaka Sundari, Mazha Peyyunnu Maddalam Kottunnu, Madammayude Ammakku Thooran Muttunnu and Muralidhara Kuruppum, Njanum Ente Pennumpillayum.

Virender Sehwag's 300


Virender Sehwag made the first Test-match triple hundred on Indian soil at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium ,Chennai on Friday(28th March 2008).
It was Sehwag’s second triple hundred in Tests. He scored a match-winning 309 in the Multan Test against Pakistan in 2004 (March 28).



Virender Sehwag’s triple ton was the fastest ever in Tests history:

Mohanlal plays the lead role in ‘Chayamukhi’

Mukesh, Aparna and Mohanlal in ‘Chayamukhi,’

  • When the sun rise on March 12 , 2008 it could well be the beginning of a new scene in Malayalam theatre.

  • The first show of 'Chayamukhi' (Mirroring the Mind)will be held at the Lulu Convention Centre, Thrissur, on March 12.

  • The play, based on a folk tale related to the 'Mahabharata,' will have Mohanlal and Mukesh essaying the roles of Bheema and Keechaka respectively.

  • Mohanlal, who had won acclaim for his stage performances in 'Karnabharam' and 'Kathayattom' a few years ago.

  • The central theme of the play is the curse of love; "it is easy to love but very difficult to be loved."

  • This is the first venture of 'Kalidasa Visual Magic', a production house promoted jointly by the two actors.Prashanth Narayanan is the script writer and director of the play.

Serena Williams wins Bangalore Open


Patty Schnyder's dream of defeating the eight-time Grand Slam champion in the final of Bangalore open (WTA Tier II tournament)was shattered in an enthralling match that made Sunday night a scintillating one.

Williams defeated Schnyder 7-5, 6-3.

India fails qualify Olympic hockey


Great Britain scored twice in the first-half and ended India's Olympic dreams with a 2-0 victory in the final of the World Hockey qualifying tournament at the Prince of Wales Country Club, in Santiago, Chile, on Sunday (09.03.2008).

Barry Middleton (4th minute) and Richard Mantell (10th) struck for Britain who then showed the discipline and character to withstand intense pressure to emerge deserving winners while qualifying for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Eight time gold medallists India thus failed to make it to the Olympics for the first time since their debut in 1928.
